Alison Smith is the Managing Director at Allanpark Consultants Ltd, having established the management consultancy in 2002. Based in Scotland, Alison has had an enterprising career.
After 15 years delivering and managing social housing services, mostly in Edinburgh and the Highlands, Alison became interested in the business of social housing and in particular, what it took to develop a housing organisation into a highly successful social business. This was long before she had ever heard the term “social enterprise”.
Alison embarked on this new direction as the course director of a new MSc in the Strategic Management of Housing at the University of Stirling. This served as an introduction to the world of strategic leadership. Following this, Alison was appointed Head of Management Consultancy Services at Scottish Homes (later to become Communities Scotland) where she was part of the organisational development senior team.
Fascinated by strategic decision-making and how evidence, process, people and context can enhance, or hinder, decisions, Alison continues to try to improve her own practice by accepting occasional interim manager appointments. She offers expertise based on real-life practical experience together with an instinctive, and yet robust, strategic and analytical approach.
Alison works with a small team of highly-skilled associates who all enjoy thinking, creating and delivering together. The team includes a social researcher, a housing policy specialist, a project and service evaluator, an accountant, a merger and acquisition expert, a data analyst and an IP lawyer.
